A quick, wholesome garlic cabbage stir fry that transforms humble ingredients into a vibrant, flavorful dish in under 15 minutes. Perfect as a healthy side or a light main course.

Ingredients

Scale

1 medium head Green Cabbage
5-6 cloves Fresh Garlic
1 tablespoon Fresh Ginger
2 tablespoons Soy Sauce
1 teaspoon Sesame Oil
2 tablespoons Vegetable Oil
1 teaspoon Honey or Maple Syrup
0.5 teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes
2 stalks Green Onions

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cabbage by removing tough outer leaves, coring it, and slicing the leaves into thin ribbons
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat until it shimmers
  3. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the pan and sauté for 30 to 60 seconds until fragrant but not browned
  4. Immediately add the shredded cabbage to the pan. Toss constantly using tongs or a spatula to distribute the aromatics
  5. Cook the cabbage for 4 to 6 minutes until the leaves soften but still retain a slight snap
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, and honey
  7. Pour the sauce over the cabbage during the last minute of cooking and toss vigorously to coat
  8. Remove from heat and garnish with red pepper flakes and sliced green onions before serving

Notes

Use Tamari for a gluten-free version or coconut aminos for a soy-free alternative.

Ensure the pan is very hot before adding cabbage to prevent steaming and sogginess.

Napa or Savoy cabbage can be used as a substitute for green cabbage.

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 4 days, but freezing is not recommended.

For extra protein, add cooked chicken, tofu, or shrimp at the end of the cooking process.
