A simple and quick method for cooking Gorton's frozen breaded fish fillets in an air fryer, resulting in perfectly crispy fish with minimal effort and cleanup, ideal for busy weeknights and kid-friendly meals. This recipe transforms frozen fillets into a golden, crunchy delight.

Ingredients

As many as you need Gorton’s Frozen Fish Fillets
Optional Cooking Spray or Light Oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat Your Air Fryer: Always start by preheating your air fryer. Set your air fryer to 380°F (193°C) and let it preheat for 3-5 minutes
  2. Arrange the Fillets: While the air fryer preheats, take the Gorton's frozen fish fillets directly from the freezer. Do not thaw them. Arrange the fillets in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Make sure they do not overlap. If you are cooking a large batch, you will need to cook them in batches
  3. Optional Light Spray: For an extra boost of crispiness and a beautiful golden color, you can lightly spray the tops of the frozen fish fillets with cooking spray or a fine mist of oil (like avocado or olive oil). This step is entirely optional, as Gorton's fillets often crisp up well on their ow
  4. Air Fry the Fillets: Carefully place the basket back into the air fryer. Cook the Gorton's frozen fish fillets for 12-15 minutes at 380°F (193°C)
  5. Flip Halfway Through: After about 7-8 minutes, open the air fryer and carefully flip each fish fillet. This ensures both sides get equally crispy and golden brown. Close the air fryer and continue cooking for the remaining time
  6. Check for Doneness: The fish is done when it is golden brown and crispy on the outside. You can also gently flake it with a fork; it should flake easily and be opaque throughout. For precise cooking, fish should reach an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C)
  7. Serve Immediately: Transfer the crispy fish fillets to a plate. A quick sprinkle of salt, a squeeze of lemon juice, or a side of tartar sauce completes the meal. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

Always Preheat Your Air Fryer: Give it 3-5 minutes at your desired cooking temperature before adding the fish for consistent results and initial crispness.

Avoid Overcrowding the Basket: Cook in batches if necessary, ensuring a single layer with space between each fillet to allow proper air circulation and achieve crispiness.

A Light Oil Spray Makes a Difference: A very light mist of cooking oil (avocado, olive, or grapeseed oil) applied just before cooking can dramatically enhance the golden-brown color and overall crispiness.

Flip for Even Crispness: Flipping the fish fillets halfway through the cooking time guarantees even browning and crispness on both sides.

Don't Overcook: Fish cooks quickly, especially in an air fryer. Overcooking can lead to dry, tough fish. Start with the recommended cooking time and check for doneness (internal temperature of 145°F / 63°C).

Season After Cooking: Enhance the flavor by adding a pinch of salt or a squeeze of fresh lemon juice immediately after the fillets come out of the air fryer. Fresh herbs like parsley or dill also make a wonderful addition.

Check Your Air Fryer Model: Cooking times can vary slightly between different air fryer brands and models; adjust as needed for your specific appliance.

Storing Cooked Fish Fillets: Once cooled, store cooked fillets in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days. Do not freeze already cooked Gorton's fish fillets.

Reheating for Optimal Crispness: Reheat in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 5-8 minutes, flipping halfway. Ensure internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). Avoid microwaving, as it results in a soft, rubbery texture.
